One Day, 2020
Resin, wood, photographic transparency, light
One Day is a photographic work which involved taking a series of photos on a day’s walk through Gowanus. This particular walk was on March 13, 2019. I was drawn to this industrial area where deliveries are made by bike, drug and methadone addicts mingle and smoke cigarettes, sex workers make plans, and families leave the train station. The photos are printed on transparent paper, ensconced in thick resin, chiseled out, and stacked with a light shining within. Looking down at the piece at floor level, the images are compressed together. The many vignettes become a single poetic encapsulated memory, like ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs on dusty limestone, piled on a glowing stone, or an ancient fire.
