Traces of
being there,
2025
Ceramic
Our home and the furniture in it allows our body to shape it, and make indentations over time. These are traces of our history. Our family just got rid of a 15-year-old brown leather sofa that had dents from our body, markers, dog hair, grease stains from many meals...our history was ghosted within that piece of furniture.
This piece is a reflection on how objects hold memory, and also how a woman, a mother and her own history, can disappear, invisible in plain sight. How easily someone can vanish into their surroundings when they are always there. The intricate designs are hand-drawn, echoing upholstery patterns from long ago, taking many hours like the quiet monotonous routines of domestic life.
